Fundraising Concert: Choral Connections is pleased to present United in Song 2025, Saturday, January 25 at 2 pm in the Trinity United Church Sanctuary.  THAT'S TOMORROW! Adults $20, tickets available at the door, cash or cheque.

Lougheed Corridor Potluck: Trinity is invited to attend the first (hopefully of many) United Church potluck for our corridor friends. Sat, Feb 8 at 10:30 am at Como Lake United. Bring a continental style breakfast food to share. Como Lake will provide beverages, etc. A wonderful opportunity for inter-church fellowship, outside of Good Friday!

UCC News: The Right Rev Moderator Carmen Landsdown has written a letter of inspiration and comfort in response to the inauguration of the new President in the US. She says, "The challenges we face are symptoms of a larger struggle. They are the outcomes of decades of oppression and of struggles to dominate at the expense of others. They are currently acute, but they are not new. And so, I hope for us that we continue to interrogate what are the root causes of our polarization?" CLICK HERE to read it in full.

UCC Church Calendars: Bring your $10 with you on Sunday and pick up one of the very special 100th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada calendars. Joan L. will be selling them after worship during coffee time. Only 3 left!

Trinity United Church has a Group Subscription for the “Broadview Magazine”: Just this year the Broadview magazine has won over 30 first and second place awards for their editorial, design, podcasts and marketing efforts and the National Magazine Awards in recognition of their world-class storytelling and journalism. The "Church Group Plan" subscription costs $30.00 for 8 issues per year (combined issues: January/February, April/May, July/August and October/November) delivered through Canada Post (bless them) to your address.
Syd Sawyer will be collecting cash or cheques (to Trinity United Church) for the subscription payments. Or put into the offering in a labelled envelope “Broadview Subscription Payment” with name and phone number. We should have all the subscriptions in by 2nd week in February.  Maybe consider gifting a subscription to a friend!

Broadview Article: John Pentland throws his hat in the ring for United Church moderator. The well-known lead minister of Calgary's Hillhurst United wants to see the denomination publicly promote “good religion.” CLICK HERE to read.

Thrift News:
January folks: "This is the perfect time to downsize the Christmas decorations!"
Thrift Shop folks: (staring into the storage space, of which there is none) "No. No, it's not."

Coldest Night of the Year is back!: Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 22. You're invited to join First United for this year's Coldest Night of the Year! They'll be taking to the wintry streets again as a way to raise awareness and funds for our neighbours who are experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness in the Downtown Eastside.

Healing Pathways:  The Tri-Cities Healing Pathway ministry offer in-person healing sessions at Inlet United on Monday afternoons.  Sessions can be booked for 1:15 or 2:00. That time on the 4th Monday of each month, however, is set aside for a gathering of practitioners. To book a session contact 604-939-5513 or email healingpathway@inletunited.ca.

PMRC Prayers: In our own Pacific Mountain Region of the United Church of Canada, as the new year unfolds, we pray for Revelstoke UC, Richmond Chinese UC, Richmond UC, Robertson Memorial PC (Nakusp), and Robson Valley SM (McBride UC and Valemount Anglican).

Trinity Prayer Circle: We have two prayer circles to receive and act on your prayer requests. Please refer prayer requests to Linda Lund (778-883-3064/linda.lund60@gmail.com).

Prayers of the People: Jan 26 to Feb 1, 2025
In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle of the World Council of Churches this week, we pray for Cyprus, Greece, and Türkiye. CLICK HERE to find out more about this part of the world and the ecumenical prayer cycle.

Video of the week: Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, spoke directly to Trump, who sat in the front row during the inaugural prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, calling on him to consider the impact of his policies and campaign promises on 2SLGBTQ+ people and migrants. CLICK HERE to watch her full 15 min sermon, or CLICK HERE for the small part that has made social media history. “That video has the potential to be iconic for future historians looking back at the cruel joke that is current politics,” one person wrote on a YouTube video of the sermon. “Their faces say everything,” they said of Trump and U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance’s reactions.

Housekeeping: Peggy and Syd

  • Dishwasher has been repaired
  • Hot water tank in the freezer room off the kitchen has been replaced. The one that it replaced was donated by an Anglican member 15 or so years ago. (the dishwasher needed more hot water than our little one in the closet could manage) She donated the tank plus installation (new pipes were needed through to the new site)
  • A lock has been installed on the Wooden Cross sliding door cupboard and on their black cabinet
  • Gutters at hall and preschool end of building were cleaned out. Thx WS
  • Wayne has fixed the leaking sink in women’s bathroom at preschool end of bldg.
  • Reminder that the front door occasionally jams…just give an extra push. The doors don’t lock shut automatically…always check if doors are shut properly.
  • Hall: outside door top mechanism is fixed and the door bar has been oiled.
  • Mice: reminder to sweep up after using an area.
  • Fraser Health inspection January 15, 2025…. all good in the kitchen.
  • Trinity will host a Camp Spirit week July 21 – July 25. Peggy Horvath and Irene McKinney/MacIver will co-host. Organizers are asking each host church for $1,000 - $2,000 over and above the camperships. Last year Trinity gave $1,250 in Bursaries. We had 17 campers attending on Bursaries from the community. Peggy suggests we have a fundraiser to collect the initial request. A cook will need to be hired.

  • Time at Doers can be a think tank for the UCW
  1. What might we do for the United Churches 100 years?
  2. What were the traditions, history, hymns, from the “founding churches” to share with our congregation
  3. Could we be interested in hosting a Strawberry Tea in June?
  • Our resources for above can be the congregation and the national UCW and the national United Church.

Next Doers mtg: March 17, 2025

Closing Prayer: Rev. David Cathcart

Gathering adjourned 8:20.

Thank you for the cleanup “all”
