“Connection not Perfection”

WE GATHER

Greeting/Welcome

A gentle reminder that we are experimenting on a weekly basis with our social media and the technology, and some things will work better than others. So we ask for your patience and generosity of spirit as we forge a new way forward together.

Acknowledgement of Territory
For tens of thousands of years, the lands on which we live, work and worship, have been occupied by indigenous peoples.
Much of what we know as the North West Coast of North America was occupied by the Coast Salish Peoples. The territory where Trinity United Church of Port Coquitlam resides is the unceded territory of the Kwikwetlem First Nations. Our acknowledgement of unceded traditional territory is a first step in reconciliation between settler cultures and indigenous peoples and the decolonization of western systems that continue to oppress and exploit indigenous peoples and land. The work of reconciliation is daunting. The work of reconciliation will not be ours to complete, but neither is it ours to abandon.

We remember these words from the Apostle Paul, “[The gift of a New Creation] is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting [our] trespasses against [us], and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.”

Let us prepare our hearts and minds for worship.

Call to Worship:

Our Congregational Church forbearers proclaimed:
In God’s presence is fullness of joy!
Our Methodist founders proclaim:
In God’s presence is fullness of joy!
Our Presbyterian ancestors proclaim:
In God’s presence is fullness of joy!
Our aboriginal predecessors proclaim:
In God’s presence is fullness of joy!
May we join our voices with all those who came before us to proclaim:
In God’s presence is fullness of joy!
Come, let us worship and give God praise!

Prayer of Approach:

Holy One, as we gather
to worship before our
Annual Congregational Meeting,
we give thanks
for the many years
of witness this community has provided.

We thank you for those with the vision
that planted, grew, sustained and transformed
this community of faith
over its many years of ministry.

Remind us of your constant presence
as we worship and meet.
In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

WE RESPOND

Offering:
Your offering: your financial gifts, your gifts of time and skill are what make our ministry possible. If you are not already on Pre-Authorized Remittance, we invite you to participate in our ministry by making a financial gift, either by sending a cheque to the church office, or by going to our website and clicking on the donate now button.

We have been blessed, not only by the generosity of our membership and adherents, but also by the courage of our leadership to learn and navigate in a very different world than the one we knew a year ago. Let us give thanks.

Holy One, make of these humble gifts a sign of our joy and gratitude for all you have abundantly gifted to us.
May you make infinitely more of these gifts that they may proclaim the good news of your reign to all ends of creation.
May all creation know the completion of your joy.
In the name of the one who came, who died and whom you raised from the dead, we pray.  Amen.

We continue with our prayer of great thanksgiving:

Communion Prayer:
Light of the world, we give you thanks and praise,
That though we prefer our comfortable, complacent lives, you still call to us and anoint us for greatness.
You met us in your Son, Jesus Christ and call us to follow his life and ministry.
Living and dying and living again, he declared your love, your promise, your hope, your joy;
He gave us grace and opened the gates to your eternal glory.
May we, who share in Christ’s body, live his risen life;
We, who drink this cup, bring life to others,
We, whom the Spirit lights, give light to the world.
Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,
So that we and all your children shall be set free,
All the world will have cause to praise your name;
Through Jesus Christ we pray.  Amen.

According to Luke,
When Jesus was at table
With his disciples at Emmaus, he took bread,
And blessed, broke it and gave it to them.

Their eyes were opened and they recognized the living Christ in the breaking of the bread.

Also according to Luke,
The disciples were gather
in memory of Jesus
on the day of Pentecost
And the Holy Spirit
poured out on them like so much wine

And the disciples received everything they required to fulfill their commission.

Let us pray together a paraphrase of the words Jesus taught us to pray:

A Paraphrase of The Disciples’ Prayer  VU 916

The bread of new life.
The cup of promise.

Prayer after Communion:

Call us, O God, and we will follow.
We give you thanks
for these gifts of bread and juice,
for your presence among us,
and for the gift of this community.
May these gifts transform our hearts,
that we might set down
the comfortable daily routines of our lives,
and follow you without fear
into the unknown.
In the name of the One we may trust
to the end of time, we pray.  Amen.
