Obituary: Jack was born on a snowy day on March 8, 1936, to Ivar and Signe Granholm. He lived in Vancouver until the family moved to Burnaby across from where Lougheed Mall is now. He loved fishing in the local streams in this area. He met Bunny, his wife of 67 years, ice skating in New Westminster. They built a house in Coquitlam where they raised their son Steven and daughter Shelley. They still have friends from this close-knit neighbourhood. After the children left home they bought a house in Port Coquitlam.
Jack spent his working years in the printing industry. He worked at Thunderbird Press until his retirement in 1996. He also helped his dad build houses. Jack didn’t like to travel but enjoyed many trips to Disneyland, especially with the grandchildren. He also loved Alaska Cruises which he and Bunny did many times. Weekends he could be found at Birch Bay enjoying the ocean and puttering around their summer home.
Jack was a very gentle, quiet person. He was very non judgemental and non confrontational. He saw good in everyone. Jack and his brother Clarence were very close. He was never the same after his brother’s passing. Jack’s later years were spent working in his garden and watching his hockey and football games.
Sadley dementia took over his body and he succumbed to this terrible disease on Thanksgiving Day, October 13th, 2025.
Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in Jack’s name would be greatly appreciated.
