From her Governor General's Award in 2019:
Congratulations to our own Joyce Lissimore, awarded The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers by the Governor General of Canada. This honour recognizes Canadians who have made significant, sustained, and unpaid contributions to their community in Canada. Candidates must have demonstrated an exemplary commitment through their dedicated volunteerism.
As a volunteer with Trinity United Church and the Port Coquitlam SHARE Food Bank, Joyce Lissimore helped the homeless in metro Vancouver receive access to shelter, food, clothing, and medical services. Her advocacy work as part of the Tri-Cities Homelessness Task Group was a driving force in opening the Rain City Housing Facility in Coquitlam, and the Extreme Weather Shelter in Port Coquitlam. Her relentless commitment in the form of preparing tax returns, connecting the homeless with other support services (health nurses, income assistance, clean needles), and being a constant presence in the community, reflect and honour the teachings of Christ and the deeply felt principles of our congregation.
We thank Joyce, for her ministries and for shining a light on Trinity United Church and all that happens here.
