Obituary: Ronald (Ron) Roy Triggs, 79 years old, of Port Coquitlam, B.C., passed away on December 22, 2023 with family at his side. Ron was a devoted husband and family man. He will be sadly missed by his wife Francis; children Jeffrey (Joanne), Barry (Virginia), and Patricia (Arlo); Grandchildren Ryan, Amy, Hazel, Gemma, Joaquin, and Lorenzo; his twin brother Donald (Elaine), and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Margaret, and sister, Betty Corbett.
Ron grew up on a farm in Treherne, Manitoba and attended the University of Manitoba. At university, he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and earned the Gold Medal for Highest Standing. While pursuing his agriculture studies, he also married Francis. He then started his career in sales and eventually moved to British Columbia where he set down roots, climbed the corporate ladder and made many friends along the way.
Ron was an avid salmon fisherman and when retired, he and Francis bought a summer place in Sooke, BC to continue his fishing hobby. Ron always said that it wasn’t called “catching”, it was called “fishing”. Thanks to Ron’s fishing, friends and family always had some salmon around, whether canned, smoked, or fresh for the barbeque (and he won a few derbies along the way too).
Ron was also a huge hockey fan and stayed loyal to his Canucks when many others had jumped off the bandwagon. It was nice for him to know that the Canucks were in first place when he passed.
An intimate service has been planned for Saturday, June 8 at 11 am at Trinity United. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron’s memory to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (https://www.bcchf.ca/) and Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation (https://rchfoundation.com/).
