Announcements

Worship on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 10:30 am: Sunday's service will be led by Rev. David. To view the order of service, CLICK HERE. As always, we have our YouTube livestream available. CLICK HERE to access it. Once you are on the page, at the time of worship, click on the video that says "live now" and you will see the service.

Message from Rev. David:
Hermit: a person living in solitude as a religious discipline.
Hermitage: the dwelling of a hermit, especially when small and remote.
Brandt Oyster River Hermitage Society: Father Charles Brandt's final wishes were that his land would become a park, a quiet and soothing space where people would come to commune with nature. He wanted people to fall in love with nature, to sit in silence with a sense of wonder, and experience for themselves the sense of sacredness that he so cherished.

From today I have four more Sundays until I begin my second sabbatical. As you may recall, my last sabbatical in 2020 didn't go as designed.

This fall, I will be the "Contemplative in Residence" at the Fr Brandt Hermitage in Oyster River, BC. Oyster River is halfway between Courtney and Campbell River on Vancouver Island in the Comox Valley. I will be unplugging from most of the internet. I have installed an app on my phone to restrict my time on social media as I'll still need to communicate with my mom on a regular basis. I have some family on the Island I hope to see. I'm making arrangements with a spiritual director. And I have a few self-care meetings, weekly and monthly that I will maintain through Zoom, and What'sApp. But most of my time will be for walking in the forest, painting and reading poetry. I'm currently looking for Canadian Poets who write about nature.

Fall is my favourite season. I spent much of my childhood visiting grandparents either up the Sunshine Coast in Madeira Park, or on Vancouver Island around Duncan, so the terrain is familiar and feels something like homecoming.

Prayer Vigils: Held on Mondays at 7 PM. Come to connect with the divine and each other during this time of global crisis.

Prayer Study News: Monday Prayer Study is currently on hiatus. They will resume September 8th.

Thrift News: - $829.05! Incredible!

Sprucing Up the Preschool: What are you doing on Tue, July 29 or on Thu, July 31 between 9-11 AM? Nothing on your calendar yet? Then join us for a little Work Party. We need a few helpers to make some minor repairs in the preschool room. This means patching random nail holes, painting over some scuffs and a bit of cleanup of the yard. This preschool space is available for meetings and other gatherings. Booking is done through the office. The Work Party - complete with coffee/tea and donuts - will be a chance to make the rooms a bit more presentable. Everyone is welcome! If you are available to drop by for an hour or two, please let Judy Johnson know.

Mission and Service: Trinity and Trinity UCW have both received Certificates of Thanksgiving from Mission and Service - for the 2024 year. Trinity United Church sent $13,086.00 to Mission and Service in 2024. Trinity UCW sent $1,125.00 to Mission and Service in 2024.

"The work that your gifts fund through Mission and Service isn't just about food, disaster relief, or human rights. In the end, it comes down to faith, hope, and love. Thank you again for compassionately helping to build a better world through your faithful support of our shared Mission and Service." - this taken from Mission and Service 2024 Accountability Report.

The Certificates of Thanksgiving are posted on a hallway bulletin board. Copies of the Accountability Report are on the Welcome Table each Sunday.

Respectfully submitted by Joy Galea, Mission and Service Enthousiast.

Return-It Recycling: For the time being, please refrain from making Return-It recyclable bottle donations to the TUC account. Return-It has recently made some changes to their policies and have placed charitable donations on pause. We are looking into how to resolve this issue, but must currently place our Return-It donations on hold. If you wish to keep your recyclables on hand until the account is back up and running, we welcome you to do so, but you may have to store them for a while in the meantime. Thank you to everyone that contributes!

Free Filing Cabinet: We have a large metal filing cabinet that needs a new home! If you are interested in taking it off our hands, please contact the office for further details.

SHARE Food Drive: SHARE Family & Community Services is hosting a food drive on Saturday, July 26 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Coquitlam Centre. They are requesting donations of canned vegetables, rice and cereals, and baby items. For more information on their most needed items for the event, CLICK HERE.

Kapa'a United Church of Christ Bulletin:
"The apostles gathered around Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, 'Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.' For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat." Mark 6:30, 31.

It seems like we were just preparing for the end of the school year with the ceremonies of May Day and high school graduations, and already the first full month of summer has come to an end. I remember the rhythms of summer as a child when the days were easy and made for sleeping in, exploring, adventures, last-minute plans, and long evenings playing outside.

I wonder if you have shifted into summer rhythms or are still going full speed as July begins. I invite you to take advantage of a cool evening breeze with the people who bring you joy. For most of us, this is a privilege, so I try not to take the time for granted. At KUCC, summer means a slower season of worship with no big festival days to plan for or celebrate. I think we can all agree that we could all use a slower pace once in a while. However, even though we are in the "ordinary times" of the church year, the work and pace of ministry at KUCC have not necessarily slowed down.
