UCC Moderator News: Moderator Carmen Lansdowne urges us to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, on September 30. This is a day to reflect, pray, learn, and to honour survivors, their families, and the communities affected by Indian Residential Schools and those who operated them. For non-Indigenous Christians in particular, this is a time to reflect on their role in colonialism and the ongoing responsibility to make reparations. CLICK HERE to watch her video message.

Letter to Civic Leaders

Letter to Civic Leaders

From Rev David

"Love your neighbour as yourself." Mark 12:31

Greetings members, adherents of Trinity United Church, this week you may have seen in the news two Port Coquitlam City Councillors quoted as saying deplorable things about the unhoused population, and the folks at 3030 Gordon. I have written a formal response to the article on behalf of Trinity United Church, approved by your Governance Team.

We are asking you to write our city councillors, the mayor, and our MP Ron McKinnon (see below). You may print and copy my letter. You may write your own letter, using my letter as writing points. You may write your own introduction stating who you are and your own conclusion, using my letter as the body. You may only mention some of the points I make or make more points of your own. You may call the offices and read the letter over the phone, or simply use my letter as talking points. If you live in Coquitlam or Port Moody, you can feel free to re-address the letter to your Mayor and/or Councillors and anyone else you think needs to respond.

The intention is to inundate our city councils with our concerns, and the list of needs that the TriCity Homelessness and Housing Task Group has discerned. SHARE is composing their own response, and I expect 3030 will have their own as well. The important thing is to get these letters sent.

PICK UP a physical copy of the letter (that can be readdressed) from the church office on Sunday.

COPY AND PASTE the letter from the website. CLICK HERE.
