New to Canada Potluck Dinner: *TOMORROW* Saturday, February 15th , 5:30 pm in the Church Hall. We would like to take this opportunity to invite all of the congregation to mingle and munch Saturday evening as we welcome newcomers. We have seen many new faces at Trinity and would love to share a meal and share our stories with one another. Please join us and bring along a dish to share. Sharing flavours from many corners of the world adds to the joy of being part of our community.
Come and join in the fellowship.
Thrift News: $732.65! Nothing says "buy local" and "buy Canadian" like shopping at a United Church Thrift Store....not only is it reducing, reusing, and recycling, but all the profits go right back into making our community thrive!
Holy Week Choir: The choir is working on anthems for Palm Sunday and Easter Morning. If anyone would like to join the choir to prepare those two pieces, you would be most welcome. We will rehearse them first on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.
Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) or Universal Basic Income (UBI): Leading into the election in 2025, The Pacific Mountain Region (PMR) GLI group is revitalizing and organizing to support grass-roots advocacy actions in our communities. There is a National GLI meeting each month via zoom, and regional communications, efforts, and support. If you are looking for an initiative to animate within your own community, GLI lawn signs and bumper stickers are excellent awareness-raising tools. Information and pdf image files for these can be found on the PMR Justice GLI page. CLICK HERE to learn more.
First United News: They have released a 2025 calendar celebrating 140 years in their community of Downtown Vancouver. It is hanging in the hallway at church! Be sure to have a look, there are a number of interesting old photos and fun facts from their long and varied history.
Coldest Night of the Year is back!: Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 22. You're invited to join First United for this year's Coldest Night of the Year! They'll be taking to the wintry streets again as a way to raise awareness and funds for our neighbours who are experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness in the Downtown Eastside.

Bat looks like Jelly DonutYou're welcome. CLICK HERE to sign a petition to change their names from Western Red Bat to Western Jelly Donut Bat. Because cultivating JOY is an act of resistance... Excerpt from petition: The Eastern and Western Red Bats, known scientifically as Lasiurus borealis and Lasiurus blossevillii respectively, are unique species of bats found across North America. Despite their distinctive features, their names do not reflect their uniqueness. We propose a change in the common names of these species to the Eastern and Western Jelly Donut Bats. This change will not only make them more memorable but also increase public interest in bat conservation efforts... |
