The week of March 2, 2025Announcements
Worship on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 10:30 am: Sunday's service will be led by Rev David. CLICK HERE for the order of service. We have our YouTube livestream available, CLICK HERE to access it. Once you are on the page, at the time of worship, click on the video that says "live now" and you will see the service.
Thrift News: $699.50! Do not fret, we had a "glitch in the Matrix..." (The Square system decided to take a break from functioning.)
2024 Tax Receipts: Our new envelope administrator, Josée Wheatley, will have tax receipts ready for pick up on Sunday. Remember to pick them up and save the Church the postage cost! And be sure to extend your appreciation to Josée, who has been wrestling with our new record-keeping computer system, Donarius; which, while great, took a lot of patience and energy to get it to do its thing...
Ash Wednesday: Rev David will distribute our Ash Wednesday devotional at Church on Sunday. This is a take-home service and "ashes" tattoo for people to make use of on Ash Wednesday, March 5.
Lenten Meditation 2025: Is the chaos getting to you? Feeling overwhelmed by what's happening in the world? Sleeping poorly with anxiety about current affairs? Join us through Lent for a 20-minute meditation Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon to 1 pm. Regulating our emotions, maintaining our sense of connection to the sacred, and making space for miracles is our best response. We will meet at noon in the sanctuary, eat our bag lunches as we visit, then sit for 20 minutes in silence. Begins March 6.
World Day of Prayer at Trinity: The St Catherine's ACW invite all to attend the World Day of Prayer at Trinity, Friday, March 7th from 1 to 3 pm. This year our focus is the Cook Islands. The theme, “I Made You Wonderful” from Psalm 139:14, serves as a beautiful reminder of God's creative work in each of us and His love of diversity. Be sure to attend this special service.
Games Night at Trinity: TUMS annual Games Night will take place Saturday, March 15th from 7 to 9 pm. Still a bargain for a great social evening playing "Sequence" for just $5.00! Bring your friends and neighbours too and make a night of it. Harvey will have tickets available for purchase on Sunday.
Holy Week Choir: The choir is working on anthems for Palm Sunday and Easter Morning. If anyone would like to join the choir to prepare those two pieces, you would be most welcome. We will rehearse them first on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.
Sad News: Many will have heard of the passing of Rev. Wilf Carson last weekend. He led the congregation of Trinity United Church Port Coquitlam for 20 years, 1982 to 2002, and will be remembered in our church life and in our hearts always.
Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) or Universal Basic Income (UBI): Leading into the election in 2025, The Pacific Mountain Region (PMR) GLI group is revitalizing and organizing to support grass-roots advocacy actions in our communities. There is a National GLI meeting each month via zoom, and regional communications, efforts, and support. If you are looking for an initiative to animate within your own community, GLI lawn signs and bumper stickers are excellent awareness-raising tools. Information and pdf image files for these can be found on the PMR Justice GLI page. CLICK HERE to learn more.
First United News: Yesterday, Vancouver City Council voted to pass the motion to pause net-new supportive housing projects within Vancouver. After listening to over 80 speakers, including the FIRST UNITED Executive Director and Board Chair, overwhelmingly voice their opposition, Council chose to move forward with a damaging motion that will exacerbate homelessness and the affordable housing crisis and will further entrench thousands within a cycle of poverty. Our letter writing campaign generated over 2100 signatures in opposition to the motion. In addition, the North Family Foundation has pledged a transformative $1 million donation to our redevelopment because of Council’s decision. CLICK HERE to learn more.
Progressive Housing and Harm Reduction: CLICK HERE. Progressive has put together an amazing resource for harm reduction that we encourage everyone to read and make use of. There is a particularly excellent video, appropriate for kids, about addiction called Nuggets, CLICK HERE for video.
Broadview Article: A botanist melds Celtic spirituality and science to fight climate disruption. Diana Beresford-Kroeger’s new book says nature holds the key to a healthy planet. CLICK HERE to read.
Healing Pathways: The Tri-Cities Healing Pathway ministry offer in-person healing sessions at Inlet United on Monday afternoons. Sessions can be booked for 1:15 or 2:00. That time on the 4th Monday of each month, however, is set aside for a gathering of practitioners. To book a session contact 604-939-5513 or email healingpathway@inletunited.ca.
United Church and Black History month: February is Black History Month. We have much to lift up: the decision to become an anti-racist denomination, racial justice training for ministry personnel, the Black clergy network, the admirable leadership of former Moderator, the Very Rev. Wilbur Howard, and of current General Secretary, the Rev. Michael Blair. But we cannot yet claim we "are" anti-racist; the data makes it plain that is not the case. This February, how will we recognize this and challenge it? LEARN MORE.
PMRC Prayers: In our own Pacific Mountain Region of the United Church of Canada, we acknowledge the beginning of Lent on this coming Ash Wednesday. From dust we come, to dust we shall return.
Trinity Prayer Circle: We have two prayer circles to receive and act on your prayer requests. Please refer prayer requests to Linda Lund (778-883-3064/linda.lund60@gmail.com).
Prayers of the People: Mar 2 to 8, 2025
In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle of the World Council of Churches this week, we pray for Belgium, Luxembourg, and Netherlands. CLICK HERE to find out more about this part of the world and the ecumenical prayer cycle. For more infomation visit:
