The week of March 9, 2025

Announcements

Worship on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 10:30 am: Sunday's service will be led by Rev David. CLICK HERE for the order of service. We have our YouTube livestream available, CLICK HERE to access it. Once you are on the page, at the time of worship, click on the video that says "live now" and you will see the service.

Daylight Savings Again: A reminder to all that clocks "spring forward" this weekend - on Saturday night - so be sure to account for being at church an hour "early" on Sunday. (Latecomers will be given hugs and extra large cups of coffee.)

UCW Meeting: All women of the Church and community are welcome to attend the monthly UCW gathering. The next one is this Tuesday, March 11 at 1:30 pm. There will be an interesting presentation on memory retention! And of course, coffee, snacks, and connection.

Thrift News: $844.25! Back to our awesomeness...we thank our computer overlords for their benificence and mercy getting our Square back up and working. (All hail Blorp.)

UCW Muffin News: Have you seen the total raised at the last muffin sale? (That lives on Drury Lane?) It was a handsome $85.00!!

2024 Tax Receipts: Our new envelope administrator, Josée Wheatley, has sent all the tax receipts in the mail! Be sure to extend your appreciation to Josée, who has been wrestling with our new record-keeping computer system, Donarius; which, while great, took a lot of patience and energy to get it to do its thing...

Lenten Meditation 2025: Is the chaos getting to you? Feeling overwhelmed by what's happening in the world? Sleeping poorly with anxiety about current affairs? Join us through Lent for a 20-minute meditation Tuesdays and Thursdays from Noon to 1 pm. Regulating our emotions, maintaining our sense of connection to the sacred, and making space for miracles is our best response. We will meet at noon in the sanctuary, eat our bag lunches as we visit, then sit for 20 minutes in silence. Drop in!

Games Night at Trinity: TUMS annual Games Night will take place Saturday, March 15th from 7 to 9 pm. Still a bargain for a great social evening playing "Sequence" for just $5.00! Bring your family, friends, and neighbours too and make a night of it. Harvey will have tickets available for purchase on Sunday.

PIE Service March 16th: We look forward to our Lent 2 Service on Mar 16, which will be led by our lovely Affirming Team of Judy J, Justine P, and Debra P - they will be helping us celebrate the PIE theory of affirmation and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community - Public. Intentional. Explicit.

DOERS Meetings: There will be another grand Doer's Meeting at 6:30 pm on Monday, March 17th - St Paddy's Day! So wear some green (and make plans to find the church some gold.) Everyone is welcome to come have a fine "craic" and be a part of what we are up to as a Church.

Holy Week Choir: The choir is working on anthems for Palm Sunday and Easter Morning. If anyone would like to join the choir to prepare those two pieces, you would be most welcome. We will rehearse them first on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.

Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) or Universal Basic Income (UBI): Leading into the inevitable election in 2025, The Pacific Mountain Region (PMR) GLI group is revitalizing and organizing to support grass-roots advocacy actions in our communities. There is a National GLI meeting each month via zoom, and regional communications, efforts, and support. If you are looking for an initiative to animate within your own community, GLI lawn signs and bumper stickers are excellent awareness-raising tools. Information and pdf image files for these can be found on the PMR Justice GLI page.  CLICK HERE to learn more.

First United News: Vancouver City Council recently voted to pass the motion to pause net-new supportive housing projects within Vancouver. After listening to over 80 speakers, including the FIRST UNITED Executive Director and Board Chair, overwhelmingly voice their opposition, Council chose to move forward with a damaging motion that will exacerbate homelessness and the affordable housing crisis and will further entrench thousands within a cycle of poverty.  Our letter writing campaign generated over 2100 signatures in opposition to the motion. In addition, the North Family Foundation has pledged a transformative $1 million donation to our redevelopment because of Council’s decision. CLICK HERE to learn more.

Broadview Article: "My church protected a family fleeing deportation. U.S. churches should be able to do the same." In the United States, the sacred regard for sanctuary is being bulldozed to the ground. CLICK HERE to read.

Healing Pathways:  The Tri-Cities Healing Pathway ministry offer in-person healing sessions at Inlet United on Monday afternoons.  Sessions can be booked for 1:15 or 2:00. That time on the 4th Monday of each month, however, is set aside for a gathering of practitioners. To book a session contact 604-939-5513 or email healingpathway@inletunited.ca.

PMRC Prayers: In our own Pacific Mountain Region of the United Church of Canada, we pray for St. Andrew’s-Wesley UC (Vancouver), St. Columba UC (Grand Forks), St. David’s by the Lake (Celista), St. David’s UC (West Vancouver), St. George’s UC (Courtenay), and St. John-Gaulbert SM (Port McNeill.)

Trinity Prayer Circle: We have two prayer circles to receive and act on your prayer requests. Please refer prayer requests to Linda Lund (778-883-3064/linda.lund60@gmail.com).

Prayers of the People: Mar 9 to 15, 2025
In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle of the World Council of Churches this week, we pray for Ireland and the United Kingdom: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales. CLICK HERE to find out more about this part of the world and the ecumenical prayer cycle.

Canada Goose Triumphant: A bald eagle attacks a Canadian Goose, and a fierce battle ensues with the goose triumphant. That leaves Canada dominant in bird metaphor AND the hockey. WATCH the video, because it is awesome.
