Letter from our Governance TeamTo a church in social isolation To the Trinity Community of Faith, The groundhog looked out and decided we are in for a few more weeks of winter! While attending the “A Cup of Hope” conference (with attendees and presenters across Canada) I heard there were blizzards, snow falls, high winds, and deep freezes while we enjoyed our cozy rooms over ZOOM. Trisha Elliott, in Ottawa, said she was manoeuvring around snow and protesting truckers. It has been an eventful week in the media… the groundhog is very intuitive. Staying safe and protecting each other is still a priority. Following protocols has allowed groups to gather safely. We will all be relieved to hear the worship and music team’s invitation to “live worship”. The choir has been warming up their vocal chords …so we must be getting close! The “Valentine’s Day Non-Event Gourmet Dinner" (not to be) held on Feb 14th Fundraiser will be this month. A lot of creative thought went into this non-event. The Governance team encourages all to take part in this calorie-free/no-prep/non-activity. Maybe join in the fun of the event and call a Trinity family member to enjoy a social visit in lieu of an in-person experience. Relationship building is one of the keys to a healthy congregation. We can all do our part in caring for each other. (AA Milne’s Pooh said it well in last week's letter!) The Governance team encourages us to take an active role in seeing that the ministries we want to be carried out from Trinity are continued, started up, or communicated. Take an interest, talk to someone who has similar passions. The Doers meetings are for all to attend (next one will be Wed, Feb 16) and connect with congregants who have passions and the love of Trinity church missions. Questions and thoughts can be directed to Governance Co-chairs Judi Carroll @ 604-941-2002 and Syd Sawyer at 604-941-4565. Blessings from the Governance team, |

Pacific Mountain Region Council NewsThe latest from PMRC Pacific Mountain Regional Council Welcome: Treena Duncan, Executive Minister, Pacific Mountain and Chinook Winds Regions. Opening / Prayer: Rev. Blair Odney, President Pacific Mountain Regional Council. Scriptures of Paul. Guest: Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne, Nominee for General Council Moderator, 2022. Dr. Lansdowne is currently the Executive Director of First United Church Community Ministry Society and First United Church Social Housing Society. She also sits on the boards of the Vancouver Foundation and the Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre. Dr. Carmen also chairs the national Indigenous Candidacy Board for the United Church of Canada, supporting Indigenous and non-Indigenous candidates for ministry. Very busy with the redevelopment of the property at First United. All is going well if slowly. Discernment around this nomination has been extensive. Need to balance personal, business, and spiritual needs is most important. Needs to be a more clear method to support communities of faith, ministers, staff and outreach initiatives have to be a more transparent. Changes at the General Council level must be prioritized and then more clearly attended to. Pandemic exhaustion should be looked at with the ideas of support. Listening sessions within the church need to be developed. Developing further the concept of the whole church. Being in community is and always has been a very important part of the United Church. One of the biggest strengths of the United Church is in its community of learners – book clubs, scriptures studies, and coffee time gatherings. Treena Duncan : Cathy Cryder - Camp Spirit – 2022 applications for leaderships are now open. Looking at over 30 sites this summer. https://www.campspirit.ca/summer-staff.html. Public Health update - All current PHO / BC CDC orders remain in place for religious institutions until February 16. Singing of the congregation or choirs with appropriate spacing and masked is appropriate. In-person services are not recommended. Closing prayer: Rev. Blair Odney Respectfully Submitted, |
