Thrift News: $671.15! Sure it's a lower number, but you know what? I think we're gonna score in overtime.

Coldest Night of the Year is back!: This Saturday, February 22 (tomorrow). You're invited to join First United for this year's Coldest Night of the Year! They'll be taking to the wintry streets again as a way to raise awareness and funds for our neighbours who are experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness in the Downtown Eastside.

Sad News: Many will have heard of the passing of Rev. Wilf Carson last weekend. He led the congregation of Trinity United Church Port Coquitlam for 20 years, 1982 to 2002, and will be remembered in our church life and in our hearts always.

World Day of Prayer at Trinity: The St Catherine's ACW invited all to attend the World Day of Prayer at Trinity, Friday, March 7th from 1 to 3 pm. This year our focus is the Cook Islands. The theme, “I Made You Wonderful” from Psalm 139:14, serves as a beautiful reminder of God's creative work in each of us and His love of diversity.

Games Night at Trinity: TUMS annual Games Night will take place Saturday, March 15th from 7 to 9 pm. Still a bargain for a great social evening playing "Sequence" for just $5.00! Harvey will have tickets available for purchase on Sunday.

Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI) or Universal Basic Income (UBI): Leading into the election in 2025, The Pacific Mountain Region (PMR) GLI group is revitalizing and organizing to support grass-roots advocacy actions in our communities. There is a National GLI meeting each month via zoom, and regional communications, efforts, and support. If you are looking for an initiative to animate within your own community, GLI lawn signs and bumper stickers are excellent awareness-raising tools. Information and pdf image files for these can be found on the PMR Justice GLI page.  CLICK HERE to learn more.

Holy Week Choir: The choir is working on anthems for Palm Sunday and Easter Morning. If anyone would like to join the choir to prepare those two pieces, you would be most welcome. We will rehearse them first on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in the Sanctuary.

First United News: They have released a 2025 calendar celebrating 140 years in their community of Downtown Vancouver. It is hanging in the hallway at church! Be sure to have a look, there are a number of interesting old photos and fun facts from their long and varied history.

Trinity United Church has a Group Subscription for the “Broadview Magazine”: Just this year the Broadview magazine has won over 30 first and second place awards for their editorial, design, podcasts and marketing efforts and the National Magazine Awards in recognition of their world-class storytelling and journalism. The "Church Group Plan" subscription costs $30.00 for 8 issues per year (combined issues: January/February, April/May, July/August and October/November) delivered through Canada Post (bless them) to your address. Syd Sawyer will be collecting cash or cheques (to Trinity United Church) for the subscription payments. Or put into the offering in a labelled envelope “Broadview Subscription Payment” with name and phone number. We should have all the subscriptions in by the second week in February.  Maybe consider gifting a subscription to a friend!

Progressive Housing and Harm Reduction: CLICK HERE. Progressive has put together an amazing resource for harm reduction that we encourage everyone to read and make use of. There is a particularly excellent video, appropriate for kids, about addiction called Nuggets, CLICK HERE for video.

Broadview Article: How boomers are personalizing their last chapter. From death doulas to digital legacies, this generation is flipping the script on end-of-life traditions. CLICK HERE to read.

Affirm United: We stand alongside countless people and organizations to denounce the hateful and discriminatory violations of 2SLGBTQIA+ human rights that have been pronounced in the US last week, and that continue to permeate on both sides of the border. CLICK HERE.

Healing Pathways:  The Tri-Cities Healing Pathway ministry offer in-person healing sessions at Inlet United on Monday afternoons.  Sessions can be booked for 1:15 or 2:00. That time on the 4th Monday of each month, however, is set aside for a gathering of practitioners. To book a session contact 604-939-5513 or email healingpathway@inletunited.ca.

United Church and Black History month: February is Black History Month. We have much to lift up: the decision to become an anti-racist denomination, racial justice training for ministry personnel, the Black clergy network, the admirable leadership of former Moderator, the Very Rev. Wilbur Howard, and of current General Secretary, the Rev. Michael Blair. But we cannot yet claim we "are" anti-racist; the data makes it plain that is not the case. This February, how will we recognize this and challenge it? LEARN MORE.

PMRC Prayers: In our own Pacific Mountain Region of the United Church of Canada, as 2025 unfolds, we pray for St. Andrew’s UC (North Vancouver, Quesnel, Rossland, Williams Lake), and St. Andrew's UC / St. Mary’s Anglican SM (Lillooet.)

Trinity Prayer Circle: We have two prayer circles to receive and act on your prayer requests. Please refer prayer requests to Linda Lund (778-883-3064/linda.lund60@gmail.com).

Prayers of the People: Feb 23 to Mar 1, 2025
In the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle of the World Council of Churches this week, we pray for France, Germany, and Monaco. CLICK HERE to find out more about this part of the world and the ecumenical prayer cycle.
